Everyone experiences times in their life that are challenging – the loss of a loved one, friendship changes, financial difficulties, relationship difficulties – and sometimes we bounce back quickly from these. Other times, we find we don’t recover as quickly as we would like, or that we don’t even feel like our usual selves under periods of intense stress. We may even notice unwelcome changes in ourselves even without the appearance of stressors in our life.
People come to therapy because they want something to change in their lives; sometimes it’s discovering a “new you” – a new, more effective way of living in the world – or recovering the “old you” that may have been lost. Therapy is designed to help people change their lives. While there are some aspects of our lives that we may not be able to easily change (such as our job, living situation), through therapy we can improve our coping strategies and other factors that will help us deal with difficult situations, as well as the way the way we think about situations in our lives.
It can be difficult to ask for help, but I invite you to take the first step of contacting me today if you’re wanting to make a change in your life!
My approach in working with clients is to establish a safe, open atmosphere in which we can work through issues together. I approach therapy from an integrative perspective, bringing together my knowledge from multiple therapeutic approaches in psychology to best suit your needs. I find that this is most effective in that we all have different preferences in mode of treatment and because some presenting issues respond better to particular therapeutic approaches. I tend to utilize humanistic, interpersonal and cognitive-behavioral perspectives when working with clients.
